Dr Geoff Tily
Senior Economist at the TUC
Dr Geoff Tily is an economist. He joined the TUC in 2014 as Senior Economist, following 25 years as a member of the government statistical and then economic services, involved throughout in the production and interpretation of macroeconomic statistics and the National Accounts. Mainly based at the Office for National Statistics, he also had a couple of stints in HM Treasury, including in the macro team over the early years of austerity (2010-2014). He researched his PhD with Victoria Chick at UCL.
In his book Keynes Betrayed (Palgrave Macmillan, 2007) he argues that Keynes’s primary concern was monetary mechanisms to avoid recession, with fiscal policy to resolve recession in second place. He tweets at @geofftily.
