His publications include “Greening the Treasury” (2019), “Creating the Digital Commons” (2020), various peer-reviewed academic articles and book chapters. James has written widely in the national and international press on economics issues. He writes a regular column for the New Statesman.

Patrick Allen, Chair of PEF said ” I am delighted that James has accepted our offer to become Director of PEF. His academic background and previous experience with NEF and the Shadow Chancellor will be invaluable in helping PEF to move forward in the coming months and developing our strategy. We are already working on a programme of events to focus on the economy post Covid-19, dealing with climate change policies as we approach the COP26 conference and learning the lessons of the dramatic Biden stimulus programme.”
