It begins by examining interwar developments in both theory and policy in relation to industrial organisation and development, and the important \u2013 but virtually unknown \u2013 contributions made by John Maynard Keynes in this context. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It then traces postwar developments \u2013 and the return of laissez-faire during the 1970s and 1980s \u2013 before considering the so-called \u201crenaissance of interest\u201d in industrial policy in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis, which \u2013 as yet \u2013 has produced very little results.
