Prof Simon Wren-Lewis

Professor of Economic Policy at the Blavatnik School of Government

Professor Simon Wren-Lewis is an economist. He is currently Professor of Economic Policy at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford and Emeritus Fellow of Merton College, Oxford. He began his career at HM Treasury and the National Institute of Economic and Social Research (NIESR) before moving into academia. Since then, he has published papers on macroeconomics for journals such as the Economic Journal, European Economic Review and American Economic Review, and advised HM Treasury, the Bank of England and the Office for Budget Responsibility.

In 2011, Simon started his widely acclaimed blog mainly macro in response to the misguided political and media shift towards austerity economics. There, he writes regularly on macroeconomic and political issues and in 2016, he was awarded the New Statesman/SPERI prize for Political Economy for “disseminating original and critical ideas in political economy to a wider public audience” through his writing. He tweets @sjwrenlewis.
