On October 3rd, the Trades Union Congress and the Progressive Economy Forum hosted a roundtable on PEF Council member Dr Geoff Tily‘s latest paper, ‘From false multipliers to ‘nonsense’ output gaps’, where he presented the paper.
Joining Geoff Tily as discussant was Professor Jagjit Chadha, Director of the National Institute of Economic and Social Research.
The session was introduced and concluded by Patrick Allen, Chair of PEF, and chaired by Kate Bell, Director of Rights, International, Social and Economics at the TUC. We were joined by a group of academics, economists and policymakers who responded to the analysis put forward in the paper.
We hope this session has contributed to a renewed debate on the multiplier effect and particularly the role lack of demand has played in the UK’s stagnant productivity.
